Nature created the fae to protect the natural world. And Fate created mermaids to create and protect the seas. Sereia was the first of her kind, the first mermaid that fate created. She was born to create the oceans and she did just that. She cried tears and those tears formed a pool. This pool was where all oceans sprang from. The pool over filled and the first ocean came into being and around it, she used her powers to create the underwater kingdom of Astoria.

From there she took vials of the tears and placed them in the places that her father told her too. Taking the tears and dropping them onto the ground new bodies of water sprung up. And these became the oceans, lakes, rivers, streams and other such places on the world known as Asmiara. Her father was a controlling man or creator as some might say. And as such when she decided to create more of her kind to help her guard the waters of the world, she created only females.

Using seeds placed in crystals she would drop one tear from the pool, the pool that never runs out and is where all mermaids return to ensure their health and longevity once a year. Mermaids are also said to carry a vial of tears with them on land for its healing properties. The pool is the strongest healing place, however, tears can heal small things on land and can help a mermaid if need be. Time however will lessen the affect the more time the tears spend away from the pool the less affective they will be.

Mermaids can request create a seed to place within a crystal that the queen will grant them a special tear for to create a child. However, these children are always female like the first mermaids. So, to have a male child the mermaid must travel to land and seek out a male of another species to breed with. It was this that caused the mermaid queen herself to travel outside. Not because she wanted a male child but because she wanted a child of her own body.

She found and fell in love with a witch who belonged to the Paxton Clan and unlike her father he allowed her to be in control. She found this feeling unlike the fae who her father and nature had decreed she would marry. The fairy king whom she was promised to wed was very much like her father and not wanting to be controlled or tied down she decided she simply wouldn't marry him. Thinking that he would give up over time the fae proved to be most stubborn and continues to this day to believe that someday she will agree to marry him.

She was happy for a time having two children, twin daughters who she loved very much. Some might say she didn't show it being very demanding. The relenting queen of the seas wanted her daughters to be strong females and feared what might happen if they were not. It drove her to expect things from them and to isolate them from her. Something she didn't want to happen yet not understanding how the minds of witches worked drove her to take the wrong course.

In time her husband’s death drove her back to her beloved sea though she kept an eye on her children from time to time. But, she believed it might be best if she stayed out of their lives having made such a mess of things. She has recently returned to help her granddaughter who seems to have a connection to the sea. Not knowing how her daughters will react to her reappearance she is once again going to try and find a way to understand.
